Coffee & Craft: Memory Boxes and Frames

For our latest Coffee & Craft event we'll decorate keepsake boxes and picture frames for our special mom momentos and photographs. We'll have materials on hand to paint, collage, decoupage, rubber stamp, and more, as well as a vinyl die-cutter for text or silhouetted images.

You bring your ideas along with any photographs, images, fabric scraps, small objects, clippings or other paper momentos, etc. that you might like to use, and a small breakfast item to share. We'll have coffee, mimosas, and an egg dish on hand.

Find inspiration (for this and other remembrance projects) on Sarah's Pinterest board "Remembering Mom."

Mothers Day Tea and Bouquet Workshop

Dear Motherless Daughters,

**We still have space! Please join us by RSVPing now!**

Every year Motherless Daughters (MD) groups around the world hold luncheon events on the Saturday before Mothers' Day. This year we are planning our first annual Mothers' Day event which will include an afternoon tea and a workshop on European Hand-Tied Bouquets led by florist and MD Victoria Ketcham (Upton Grey Floral). Every attendee will create a beautiful, one-of-a-kind bouquet of designer quality.

MDs from all "chapters" are welcome, and MDs who have never been to an event before, join us! Our group welcomes women who have lost their mothers at any age.

We will be joined at the event by a very special guest: Hope Edelman, author Motherless Daughters: A Legacy of Loss, and the founder of the MD movement. We'll end our gathering, as all groups across the world will on this day, with a circle of remembrance ceremony.

The cost of this event is $50, which includes afternoon tea as well as all floral supplies. Scholarships may be available. Please RSVP and pay in advance to secure your space at this special event.

If you have a favorite tea cup that reminds you of your mother, please bring it! If you have favorite flowers that remind you of her, bring some of those too.

MD Mini Retreat: Meditation, Hike, & Picnic

Since we won't be holding our annual MD Retreat until this fall, we decided we should do a "mini retreat" this spring. Join us for a hike along the beautiful Monrovia Canyon Trail, kickstarted by a brief meditation exercise, and followed by a picnic lunch. Bring water and a sack lunch.

We'll meet in the parking lot near the ranger station; however, you'll want to park along North Canyon Blvd. before entering the gate that says "Monrovia Canyon." (If you see the Sawpit Dam to your right, you've gone too far.) You CAN park in the parking lot past the dam, but it costs $5 or $10. Parking can be full, so give yourself extra time to find a parking spot and walk to the entrance point.

Please be sure to RSVP on our Evite so that we know not to start the hike without you!

Ladies' Wine & Paint Night

Join us for a relaxing night of relaxing and painting together! This will be like all those "wine and paint" nights you see advertised...but cheaper, better, and with your favorite MD sisters! ;)

We'll provide the paints and canvases and snacks; please bring a drink to share (alcoholic or otherwise), as well as $5-$10 to pitch in for materials if you can.

We can put on a "how to paint" youtube video that we can all follow, OR: if you want to bring a photo or an object that reminds you of your mother, you are welcome to do that as well! You can also bring your own art supplies. The paints we will have are acrylic, but watercolors or sketching materials would also be a fun idea.

If enough people bring objects, we can create a group "still life" for inspiration.

Location: Alex's House, Azusa CA (Details in Evite)

Coffee and Craft: Make a "Memories of Mom" wreath

In her book "Passed and Present" [http://allisongilbert.com/books/passed-and-present/] Alison Gilbert shares ideas for how we can turn photos and treasured items that belonged to or remind us of Mom--clothing, jewelry, fabric, knick knacks, etc--into beautiful works of memory art Gilbert calls "Forget Me Nots." Let's come together this month to make a "Memories of Mom" wreath! We'll provide the wreath forms and other crafting supplies; you bring photos (or copies of photos if you don't want to use precious originals), quotes, snippets of Mom's handwriting, old greeting cards, trinkets, or any kind of fabric or item you might want to weave, tie, or clip into the wreathe. There will be coffee and pastries, as well. Even if you don't want to craft, please join us for coffee and conversation!

$20 donation for materials requested but not required - please let nothing stop you!

You can find more inspiration (for this and other remembrance projects) on Sarah's Pinterest board "Remembering Mom." [https://www.pinterest.com/sarahrking/remembering-mom/]

RSVP to: sgvmotherlessdaughters@gmail.com by Friday September 16th. You can also RSVP via our Evite. (Join our newsletter to receive all future emails and Evites!)
